The Bay of Biscaysensu lato, from the Cornouaille peninsula to the northern coasts of Spainlines of French coasts and harbours a great number of edible fish. It thus holds a pivotal position in French fisheries oceanography. The Scientific and Technical Institute of Marine Fisheries thus organised oceanographic cruises on board the research vessel "Thalassa" to carry out seasonal studies on ichthyoplankton and environmental factors (temperature, salinity, oxygen) over a five-year period.
